How did you hear about the RNR?
I originally applied to join the Royal Navy. During the application process there was a change in my circumstances which made me think that maybe the RNR would be a better choice. I saw the advert in Navy News and have never looked back.

Hobbies:
I enjoy spending time with my family, coaching my sons football team and watching Leeds Utd.

Why did you join the RNR?
I have always had an interest in the sea. Part of me was using the RNR as a kind of “try before you buy” to sample the navy before joining full time. The RNR gives you the opportunity to experience things that you wouldn’t otherwise get to do, visit places you wouldn’t normally see without the big leap into the full time Navy.

RNR Goals and ambitions:
Having recently been promoted to Leading Seaman my next goal is to pass all my qualifying courses for promotion to Petty Officer.

Best thing about the RNR?
The best thing about the RNR is definitely the people. I’ve met some of my best friends through the RNR and we get to experience so much together it makes the friendships even stronger. In my time I have mobilised to the Arabian Gulf for six months, spending time in Bahrain and Dubai. I’ve also had the opportunity to visit Vigo, Antwerp, Limassol and Barcelona. These would cost a fortune to do in civvy street but I’ve been paid for the privilage of visiting these fantastic places.
